What awaits you:
During our red beer tour, the rich beer history of Nuremberg comes to life for you at original underground locations. The first rock passages for maturing and storing barley juice were cut into the castle hill as early as 1380. Would you have guessed that the city council had already stipulated in 1303 – a good 200 years before the Bavarian Purity Law – that only barley malt could be used for brewing? Here in Nuremberg, it was dried so intensively that the beer was given a very special colour: The legendary Nuremberg red beer was born. It gave its name to this tour and dominated the local market for centuries. Unfortunately, the variety was later forgotten. In ‘Red Beer in Deep Cellars’, we present the beer history of Nuremberg as a multifaceted up and down.
Incidentally, we have been able to satisfy your curiosity about the flavour of medieval city beer for some time now. The Altstadthof brewery has revived the original Nuremberg red beer. At the exit, we will tell you all about its history and, of course, won’t leave you high and dry. In the brewery right next door, a small beer tasting with commentary awaits you. Our red beer tour ends with a visit to the whisky warehouse, which can also be produced from red beer malt in excellent quality.
Our ProBeer Boutique is open for further tastings on Fr. and Sat. from 16:00-19:00.
